I've Been Blessed

One girl's mother had volunteered her services to help me with mulching this summer. I told her to get some other girls to come along and we will make it a party. At 7:30 this morning, these five girls showed up to help me finish the edging along the drive.

The first part of the job was getting rid of the grass between the edging and the drive. We had to use shovels to dig it loose and then knock the dirt from the clumps of grass. We filled the garden cart about five or six times with grass and dumped it in a hole down by the fence at the back of the property.

One of the girls loved to drive the garden tractor to do the mulching. She was better at backing the trailer than I am although she had never driven it before. They did a nice job of mulching.

After we had the work finished, we went to Mohnton Navy Yard for pizza. They have a wood burning oven for making their pizza and some awesome pizza. We had two large pizzas. The girls were hungry after all the hard work they had done in the morning.

I am extremely grateful for their help. It is quite a privilege to have students who are willing to come in the summer and help with some work around here. I have been blessed.

Relay for Life 2009

Last evening we went to the 2009 Relay for Life at Garden Spot High School. We walked around the track at least 10 times, bought 4 luminaries, participated in the lighting ceremony, bought some food, wished we had the camera, and came home again.

This morning after our breakfast in Morgantown and stopping at a yard sale at her uncle's house, we went back to the Relay for Life to take a few pictures. By then it was raining and there were not as many people walking the track, but we still got a few pictures.

Garden Report

I spent most of the day outside since the rain has ended. I mowed and trimmed the lawn. That looks much better than it did this morning.

The garden also looks better, but is it certainly nothing to brag about this year. I am in the process of weeding it for the first time this year. It just didn't get done before.

But the weeds are not the only problem. When I bought seeds, I got the wrong kind of beans. Oh well, I planted them anyway. They came up kind of spotty, and then the rabbits ate them off. They are beginning to grow back--the few stalks that are there.

The other major issue in the garden is the potatoes. I planted my usual two rows of potatoes, but only about six plants ever came up. I guess we will be buying potatoes all winter this year.

So it is kind of a disappointing garden report this week. The healthiest plants in the garden are the peas which should be ready to pick in about two weeks.

The Last Treatment

June 1 was the last chemo treatment. The nurses threw confetti on her and gave her a purple heart award for completing chemo treatments.
